She used symmetry to explore her feelings about her husband's infidelity.

She completed this painting after her divorce from her husband and shows her effort to express her loneliness and desperation. The painting depicts two women but also two personalities of the artist. One woman is the traditional Frida who has a broken heart and the other woman is the more modern Frida who is independent and strong.
