The Baroque era dates roughly from 1600 to 1750. Some examples of Baroque composers, performers: Monteverdi, Bach, Purcell, Handel, and Corelli. The Classical era dates roughly from the mid-1700s to the mid-1800s. Some Classical composers: Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven.

Baroque music was complex, highly tonal, and often polyphonic. It was trendy to perform in an energetic and emotionally charged style. The Romantic music that followed the Classical period was also emotional often nationalistic, historical, autobiographical, or explicitly story driven.
