It is true. Indians have ancient instruments of purely Indian origin used in their classical music. They managed to preserve them over thousands of years as one of their culture traits till nowadays. That has been made easier that India has a 'wall' around it from the high mountain ranges, so only few have managed to enter their territory and that has always been for a relatively short time, so their culture was not affected by foreign cultures.
