In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.

    Explanation:

There are two ideas here; the idea trumps the work itself, and "execution is a perfunctory affair" indicates that the traditional notions of craft and skill are minimized, or indeed ignored. These ideas go well back into the history of modern art to Marcel Duchamp's Fountain of 1917.
