    how long ago? What was their life way, describe them? Early homo sapiens, more specifically Cro-Magnon humans created the cave paintings in the3 European caves discussed in the lecture and this was about 40,000 years ago. Cro-Magnonhumans are homo sapiens of the European continent, a subgroup of homo sapiens that expanded out of Africa to inhabit Europe about 45,000 years ago. They were a hunter/gatherer group that had advanced technological innovations, complex language, successfully hunted larger prey in groups, and had a sense of spirituality and community cooperation. They lived in shelters that were huts made out of rocks, clay, bones, branches and hides. Cro-Magnon humans were identical to modern humans. 2.
