Misty Copeland broke many barriers in the art of ballet by becoming a famous African-American ballerina. She was only the second African-American soloist of American Ballet Theatre (first one in two decades) and in 2015. Copeland became the first African American woman in ABT's history of 75 years to become a principal dancer!

The ballet is considered very precious, elegant and elite art, and the prejudices are that dancers participating in it should be white. The fact that in 75 years no African American dancer made it to a principal dancer is the hugest evidence.

This is how Misty Copeland made a huge impact on the art, but also the audience and society. With her involvement, talent and strength she is breaking the prejudices a racist idea in the society and culture, making a pathway for new generations of African American ballet dancers.
