    Psychophysiological disorders occur when there is an underlying psychological condition such as stress causes or increases physical symptoms of illnesses such as hypertension, heart diseases and so on.

    There are two major types of psychophysiological disorders. They are:

    1. Somatoform disorders: These disorders occur when the physical symptoms have no physical cause. 2. The other kind manifests when physical symptoms (Psychosomatic disorder) have a physical cause but are made worse by psychological issues. Existing condition of Diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease means that the patients may respond more sensitively to the physical symptoms as a result of the inner stressful experiences.

    The development of psychosomatic disorders sonewhat involves the following factors the degree of arousal depending not only on the nature of the stress situation but in addition, it also depends on the individual's perception of the situation and his / her stress tolerance.

    The failure of these emotions to be dealt with adequately, either through appropriate expression or through a changed frame reference.

    Response stereotype occurs when the destructive effects of chronic arousal become concentrated on a specific organ, it can disrupt the regular functioning of the organ.

    It can be said that everyone may not equally fall prey to psychophysical conditions. psychophysiological disorder in a given family may result from common experience and imitation learning. Physical factors play an important role in the psychosomatic disorders as mental stress and anxieties etc. physical factors express themselves through physical organs. Coronary heart disease (CHD) for example is caused due to the damage of one of the coronary or heart arteries, and choice of lifestyle practices such as intake of a diet with high levels of saturated cholesterol and calories, high blood pressure, diabetes, mellitus; smoking, overeating and physical inactivity.
