The first comic book in the history which won the World Fantasy Award for best short fiction was Neal Gaiman’s The Sandman. This happened in 1991: The Sandman won WFA for its 19th episode "A Midsummer Night’s Dream". The Sandman is famous American comic book published by DC Comics, and some of its artist are Sam Keith, Mike Dringenberg, Jill Thompson, Shawn McManus, Marc Hempel and Michael Zulli. The main character of The Sandman is Dream, the ruler of the world of dreams. The original series was running from 1989 untill 1996, with Gaiman's contract stipulating that the series would end when he left it. He also never allowed the making of the movie adaptation.
