The horizontal lines that go around the UV Sphere are called:

B. Rings

- You can easily mark it by pressing SHIFT + ALT and right-clicking on the widest ring around the UV Sphere which is at the center of the sphere. After that, press CTRL + E to mark it. Just make sure you are in edit mode when you do the command.
