Some things that will make your poster pop are
-bright colors
-large wording (so that it can be read easily)
-interesting font
-drawings/designs/patterns
You can also go online to look for inspiration/ideas for designs.

You can also do what i do if you are writing, for example if you use blue make the outside of the letters a dark blue and the inside a bright blue, also you can make actual pop outs people will be shocked when they see it, my teachers were.
