Gil Evans worked a lot with Ryo Kawasaki, a jazz fusion and guitarist from Tokyo. They did several concerts in the United States and in Europe. They also collaborated on several albums such as "Gil Evans Orchestra Tokyo Concert feat. Ryo Kawasaki". Ryo Kawasaki was in fact replacing Jimi Hendrix, because Gil Evans had originally intended to do an album with Hendrix but Hendrix died prematurely.
