All men play a series of characters in their time

First an infant, drooly and illiterate

Then a school boy who prefers to play than learn

Then a lover, speaking nonsensical praises to his mistress

Then a soldier, willing to risk his life for honour of his own

Then a working man of the law, round, wise and aged

Then an elderly man, shuffling about in his slippers and pants about his shrunken wrinkled figure, and childish dependence

And finally, the unconscious dead, without the ability to exist

And so closes the curtain on every man.
