The White Temple in Uruk was built with a spiral ascent so it metaphorically looked like it is reaching the sky.

    Explanation:

Like every other ziggurat in Mesopotamia this one was used in rituals. Uruk was one of the most important cities of that time, home of famous Gilgamesh. What is interesting is that it was built on the hill, so you needed to ascend by the stairs to reach it. It was dedicated to the Sun God.
