In 1816, Beethoven was completely deaf.

In his letters he stated that at age 26, 1796, he began to hear buzzing noises and other sounds. Deafness began in 1798, he had lost 60 percent of his hearing by 1801, age 31. In 1816, age 46, he had lost his hearing completely.
