    Control : Skunk (that were not poked)

    Independent: Poking (the skunk)

    Dependent: Emission of toxic fumes

    Explanation:

    Definitely not a very pleasant experiment, however;

    Let's talk about variables:

    Control group is the group in an experiment that was not exposed to the testing. This sets a baseline for a researcher and at the same time it can show whether the manipulation or the change in one variable is the cause of the change in the test subjects.

    The skunk should be the controlled variable because for example, you choose another species of skunk to test this on, the results may not be the consistent because some species may behave differently.

    Independent variable is the variable that is changed to see if it has an effect o on the test subject. Poking in this case would be the independent variable because it is what will affect the test subject.

    Dependent variable is also a variable that we do not manipulate in an experiment but the changes that it undergoes because of the application of the independent is what we observe or track in the experiment. This is why it was called dependent, because the changes will depend on the independent variable.
