Scientists have believed for many years that water pressure increases as water depth increases. What experimental method would best test this hypothesis, and why?

1. Bring samples of ocean water from various depths to the lab and measure the pressure of each sample, because this most directly measures ocean pressures

2. Send a robot to measure the pressure of the ocean at various depths and plot the data on a graph, because ocean pressure may change with depth

3. Capture fish from various ocean depths and measure how much internal pressure is found in their tissues, because this directly measures pressures in living systems

4. Collect rocks from various ocean depths and determine how much pressure was present during the rocks' formation, because rocks do not change once they are formed
