    Foliation is commonly referred to the repetitive layering in metamorphic rocks.

    The following are some of the examples of a foliated metamorphic rock:

    Slate - a slate is just like shale. It has a dark color and will break into flat layers.

    Schist - contains mica and is often has a large crystals of it.

    Gneiss - looks like a fudge swirl ice cream.
