The nucleotide sequence of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) determines the amino sequence of a protein, and the type of amino acid contained in the sequence determines the structure of the protein. Proteins which have more hydrophobic amino acid residues tend to fold in such a way that the hydrophobic regions forms the protein's interior, while proteins that have more hydrophilic amino acid residues tend to have less folding. The extent to which a protein folds determines the its structure. The structure of every protein is a product of the information contained in the nucleotide sequence of the cell's nucleic acid.
