    ADP gains a phosphate group to create ATP, which stores energy for making sugars.

    ADP is adenosine diphosphate where as ATP is adenosine triphosphate. ATP has three phosphate groups, while ADP has two phosphate groups. ATP can easily release and store energy by breaking bonds and re-forming the bonds between its phosphate groups.
