If a child has blond hair and both of her parents have brown hair, what does that tell you about the trait for blond hair?

This shows that there is mutation which makes the child to have blond hair different from the parent's own which is brown. Mutation is a sudden change in the genetic material (DNA)

The allele carrying the trait for blond hair is heterozygous recessive.

    Explanation:

Since the allele was recessive, it could not express itself in the presence of the dominant allele which is for Brown hair in the parents. But due to random mating, there was a possibility of 25% that an upcoming child will have blond hair, due to the crossing of two recessive alleles.
