    Essentially, it's the idea that your brain has the ability to convince your body that a fake treatment is the real thing. For example, sugar pills are commonly used in control groups during clinical trials. An improvement of one's symptoms is observed, despite the use of a non-active treatment. It's believed to occur due to psychological factors, such as expectations or classical conditioning.
