    -Enzymes are proteins that control the speed of chemical reactions in the body. Without enzymes, these reactions would take place too slowly to keep one alive. Some enzymes, like the ones in the gut, break down large molecules into smaller ones.

    Enzymes are catalysts for chemical reactions in living things. Enzymes, like other catalysts, lower the activation energy and increase the rate of chemical reactions.

    Enzymes speed up reactions such as digestion. Without them, we'd take weeks to digest our food, which means we wouldn't be able to survive.
