In a village, if the proportion of individuals who have sickle-cell disease is 0.10, and the population is assumed to be at hardy-weinberg equilibrium, what is the expected frequency of the hbs allele? (hint: what is the genotype of people with sickle-cell disease, and how is that genotype represented in the hardy-weinberg equation?)

    Normal genotype: AA

    sickle-cell genotype: aa (It's a recessive trait)

    heterozygote's genotype: Aa

In the Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium equation, the recessive allele is represented by q².

The proportion of the allele for the sickle cell is 0.10, so we only need to do the square rote to determine the frequency of the allele: √0.10

    answer: 0,32
