Within a population of moths, the color black (B) is dominant over the color gray (b). 40% of moths in a given population in an urban park are black. Over time, the tree bark darkens and the black moths become camouflaged. Eventually only 4% show the recessive phenotype, gray. What are the frequencies of the p and q alleles in the final population? A) p =.4; q =.6 B) p =.8; q =.2 C) p =.96; q =.04 D) p = 9.6; q =.4

    C

Explanation: consider the genotype frequency. p²+q²+2pq=1

where the total is always 100% also represented as 1.

First the Black moths are which are dominant, and in our above equation at 40 %The dominant homozygous is represented by p which =.40

But eventually q the recessive homozygous is 4% which is =.04

with this information we then find the final percentage of P

    which is p=1.00-.04=.96

p=.96 since q=.04 in the final population.

    B) p=,8; q=.2

    Explanation:

I found out using the process of elimination on the quiz till I got a 100%.
