DNA fingerprinting is a laboratory technique used to establish a link between biological evidence and a suspect in a criminal investigation. A DNA sample taken from a crime scene is compared with a DNA sample from a suspect. Most recently, DNA fingerprinting has been expanded into fields other than forensics including agriculture as well as animal breeding programs. Fish hatcheries in the mountain states are hoping to begin a breeding program that combines the best features of two fish varieties to create a super fish; one that could withstand the extremes in water temperatures as well as water pH. Scientists want to find a fish that they can breed with brown trout, a hardy fish that can withstand many adverse environmental conditions. Based on the DNA profiles of the four trout varieties, which fish would be the best choice for the breeding program? A) Brook trout Eliminate B) Golden trout C) Rainbow trout D) None of the three as they are different species.
