    The most common cause of this condition arise from mutations in the LDLR gene. The LDLR gene provides the information for cells to make proteins called a low-density lipoprotein receptor. The risk of high cholesterol in a person is greater because a gene defect (mutation) changes how cholesterol is processed by the body
