The group of nerve fibers from the dorsal and ventral root of spinal cord forms spinal nerve. The sensory neurons enters the grey matter of the spinal cord via dorsal root. The motor neurons moves out of the grey matter of the spinal cord via ventral root. The dorsal root originates directly from the spinal cord and moves towards dorsal root ganglion.

The ventral root consist of efferent fibers that carry information to maintain glandular and motor functions. The ventral horns of spinal cord consist of cell bodies of neurons involved in transfer of signal.
