A study in 2003 suggested that intake of caffeinated drinks, such as 2-3 cups of coffee can affect functional MRI findings. Caffeine was said to constrict the blood vessels in the brain, thus reducing cerebral blood flow. While those in withdrawal have shown increase in cerebral blood flow. If a sprained ankle has metal clips in the bandage, it should be removed because metallic objects may produce harmful effects in the magnetic field. Prescription medication is the least likely to affect MRI result, and you can still take it as suggested by your GP.
