Wave and tidal energy projects are possible because of the Law of Conservation of Energy. Would they still be possible if the ocean were an isolated system? Explain your answer in terms of how matter and energy are exchanged in systems.

Isolated system is the system which does not come into contact with it's surrounding environment, therefore, the energy and matter within the system remains constant. For example, hot tea in the insulated container and closed.

So, if the ocean were an isolated system then these projects were not possible because as I explained above that in an isolated system the exchange of energy and matter does not take place and these projects are possible due to the Law of conservation of Energy.

An isolated system means that no matter nor energy can leave the system. So if the ocean were one, how would we extract any energy from it? Wave and tidal energy projects would require us to be able to extract energy from the ocean. otherwise it would be impossible.
