    Ridges separate watersheds

A watershed is a region of land within which water flows down into a specified body such as river, stream, lake, sea or ocean. Watersheds are separated from one another by ridges. Ridges are elevated boundaries that divide watersheds. They are also called drainage divides. Water that flows on one side of a ridge moves into one body of water, while water that flows on the other side moves into another body of water.
