Keratin is a fibrous protein, that makes up a large component of the hair and nails. It is a hardened protein, with some flexibility, that is used by epithelial cells to protect the cells from damage and stress, when the hair or nail is still in the roots. It is found in high amount, in vegetables and fruits that are orange in color (carrots in particular)
