The nurse must withhold the next dose of lithium and drawing blood to test it for toxicity. Lithium toxicity is dangerous, Lithium toxicity is commonly caused by long term accumulation of lithium inside the body. When the client is having a nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, thirst, polyuria, slurred speech, and muscle weakness. The toxicity is usually precipitated by dehydration, concurrent use of diuretic drugs such as HCT and usage of over the counter pain killers.
