What is the component of red blood cells responsible for oxygen transport?

    There's one important component in red blood cells called hemoglobin, a special protein. Its function is to aid the transport of oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body and the movement of carbon dioxide back to the lungs so it can be breathed out. Another interesting fact about hemoglobin is that it is responsible for the red color of the red blood cells.
