Scientists study the following natural factors in order to understand long-term climate:

    A) the Earths Position

    C) Tectonic Activity

    D) Volcanic activity.

    E) Solar Energy

    Explanation:

    A) Earths Position: New studies which combines astronomical and geologic data hints at an extraterrestrial cause for extreme climate change 56 million years ago.

Some 56 million years ago, during the transition between the Paleocene and Eocene epochs, the massive amounts of carbon dioxide flowed into the atmosphere, and average temperatures rose by five to eight degrees Celsius. This event is referred to as a "hyperthermal" event.

    C) & D) Tectonic Activity & Volcanic Eruptions: Research shows that movement of plate tectonics causes a change in the ocean currents and in turn generates more heat.

The shifting of these tectonic plates result in the creation of the volcanic eruptions increases the degree of carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) in the atmosphere that also leads to a rise in the temperature levels. On the contrary, if the move is insignificant, the temperature levels record a fall. Conclusively plate tectonic movement result in a change in climate though the rate is slow.

    E) Solar Energy: The Sun is the source of most of the energy that drives the biological and physical processes in the world around us-in oceans and on land it fuels plant growth that forms the base of the food chain, and in the atmosphere it warms air which drives our weather.

Scientists have considered the sun-climate hypothesis to explain Earth's rapid warming. The evidence collected show that the sun noticeably affects our climate over millions of years.

    Cheers!
