Ultrasonography revealed a tumor in Rita Smith, a 67-year-old woman. Biopsy was positive for stage II gastric carcinoma. Surgery and chemotherapy were the treatments of choice, and Rita's prognosis was good, despite an intervening pneumonia. What kind of cancer is gastric carcinoma?

There several subtypes of gastric carcinoma, consisting of gastric lymphoma and gastric adenocarcinoma. The most commonly occurring gastric carcinoma is the gastric adenocarcinoma which accounts for about 90% of all stomach cancer diagnosis. This type of cancer arises from the cells of the inner stomach lining.

    Generally, stomach carcinoma can be caused by, bad diet, Helicobacter pylori, pernicious anemia, smoking, hereditary etc.
