parathyroid hormone (PTH) into the blood. PTH modulates calcium and phosphate homeostasis, as well as bone physiology. PTH has effects antagonistic to those of calcitonin by increasing blood calcium levels by stimulating osteoclasts to break down bones and release calcium.
