3. Why is it important to keep a microscope covered when you're not using it

    Covering the microscope prevents dust and other stuff from settle on and possibly getting into the gadget.

    It prevents dust from settling on the scope and in the lenses. Also, if working in a lab, a cover can prevent contamination.
