    Each flower is bought at a price of $.50 and sold at 40%more = 140/100*0.50=$0.7

    Hence they gain p=.7-.5=$0.2 per flower sold.

    We are looking for the number n of flowers they need to sell to make a profit of $500.

    We must hence solve 500=n*p

    n=500/p=500/.2 hence n=2500 flowers
