The maintenance of glucose metabolism of body is important for the organism. Before eating breakfast the level of glucose is low so the level of pyruvate and glycogen breakdown occurs to increase the blood glucose level. After eating breakfast, the glucose level is high in the body that causes the increase storage of glycogen to maintain the extra blood glucose level. The amount of pyruvate also changes and decrease as the glycogen stores in the body.

The two main hormone that plays an important role in blood glucose level are glucagon and insulin. The insulin is released in case of high blood glucose level and glucagon is secreted in case of low blood glucose levels.
