For an orthodox Jewish client being treated for a terminal condition, the nurse should be aware of the following:

    1. Their may be a high level of outward expression of anxiety. This is common among orthodox Jews, especially the older ones

    2. Although Orthodox Jews are very strict as regards observance of religious laws, religious laws are suspended during times of severe illness.

    3. Family members, who are of the opposite sex, may not shake hands or make eye contact with the client.
