    Explanation:

    Bateman's principle suggests that a male have more reproductive success variability than females because male can produce million of sperms in a single time with a less expense of energy while females invest more energy for producing small amount of eggs and offspring.

    So a male can become a parent of many offspring as compared to females who can become a mother of only some offspring because a male can fertilize all-female eggs of a female but a female can only give rise to few offspring in his lifetime.

    Therefore females act as limiting resource in many species because eggs are energetically expensive than sperms so male competes for females for mating.
