The procedure of modification in the composition of a species of an ecological community with time is known as ecological succession. The time duration can be decades or even millions of years after a mass extinction.

The initiation of community is done by a few innovative animals and plants and develops via enhancing complexity until and unless it turns into a self-perpetuating or stable as a climax community.

In the process of succession, if the nutrients are supplemented to the compost soil, then any plant life will develop healthier, and the succession of growth will get enhanced because of nutrient-rich soil.
