The greenhouse effect is a gradual heating of the earth. Increasing the average temperature of the earth, even by 1 or 2 degrees can have a serious effect on global climate. When the earth heats up, it can cause melting at the polar ice caps. The rising of the sea is an indirect result of the greenhouse effect, not a direct result, so B would not be a good answer choice.
