When urine is accumulated in the bladder, it flows through nervous stimulation of urinary muscles controlling a tiny tube which connects the urethra to the penis to empty the bladder. This structure is called the urethra. it conducts both the sperm and urine out of the bladder through the penis for ejaculation and micturition

Therefore because of hyperplasia of the prostate, which leads to increase in mass of the prostate gland. The latter presses against the walls of the urethra, reducing its capillarity, restriction in urine flow, leading to retention of urine in the bladder.
