    Answer: RBC / Erythrocytes / Red blood cells

    Explanation: The blood consists of the following components - white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and plasma. Different components perform different functions. The part which carries the gases is the RBCs or erythrocytes. They carry oxygen as well as carbon dioxide. RBC's contain a pigment - hemoglobin, which binds oxygen molecules and carries it to each and every cell of the body.
