Biotechnology can be used to engineer GMOs, or genetically modified organisms. These GMOs can be resistant to viruses, diseases, etc. that make them more desirable. One example is virus-resistant squash, a GMO that is resistant to viruses that often destroy fields of the squash. This GMO yields much more fruit and saves farmers' energy and resources. Biotechnology has been very useful in the agriculture industry for reasons such as the ones listed above, it can prevent crop decay and many more issues by engineering GMOs.
