I believe that carbohydrate is the predominate fuel used by muscle during a 10k race (50 minute). Muscle glycogen is the main fuel supply for intense exercise and is the major source during the first hour of exercise. During periods, of low intensity exercise such as leisurely walk, blood glucose together with fat stores are mainly used to generate ATP.
