Eukaryotic cells have a membrane-bound nucleus. Animal cells and plant cells are eukaryotic. Eukaryotic cells have many organelles that perform functions within the cell. Some organelles are big enough to be seen with a light microscope. An electron microscope is needed to see all organelles in detail. Plant and animal cells have many organelles in common, but only plant cells have cell walls, chloroplasts and permanent vacuoles.
