It will vary from ecosystem to ecosystem, but traditional, at least in Northern American territories, deer serve as the local herd fauna. They eat the grass and prevent total clogs of ferns and weeds and such. They also provide food for what predator’s that may exist in the area. If the deer were to die, predators (wolves/large cats) would starve and the grasses would grow wild.
