Inertia is defined as the resistance of the object to any change in its motion which may also include a change in the direction.

It is also defined the property of matter that involves it continuing in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless an external force is applied to change the state.

The jet airplane sitting on a runway will have greater inertia then a speeding car due to its larger mass.
